Being involved and contributing to creating a better life for people has been the hallmark of more than 50 years of service with the Sisters of Mercy for Dr Maureen Gleeson.
“I think the work is very valuable,’’ Dr Gleeson said.
“The Sisters of Mercy are a dedicated group of women who contribute to making this a better world.
“We bring a sense of mercy and compassion to people lives.
“Mercy Connect often works with people that other organisations don’t want to handle.
“Our mission is to work with those who are marginalized or oppressed and help make their life better.”
Education is also at the forefront of Dr Gleeson’s mind.
She has Bachelor, Masters and Doctorate Degrees in Health Administration (University of New South Wales).
She also holds General, Midwifery and Infant Welfare Nursing qualifications, has undertaken post graduate studies at Cornell University in the U.S. and undertaken Ethics and Theological studies at Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium.
It is through this study she has developed a passion for inspiring others to gain higher qualifications.
“I value the education I have had,’’ she said.
“I value scholarship, the word implies and encapsulates a dedication for the search for the truth and a reverence for the learned.
“As one of the board of directors I am keen to help develop Mercy Connect staff pursue education so the service can continue to provide a professional, well-educated work force.’’
Dr Gleeson has held chief executive positions in Australian hospitals in both the Public and Private and Not-for-Profit Sectors.
She has also worked extensively with clinicians, health service and facility managers in the preparation of service and strategic plans for a range of different services.
In 2006 she was awarded the Medal of Australia (O.A.M.) for services to Australian Health Care.
She is currently a Hearing Member of the Health Professionals Tribunal (NSW).
