Good afternoon all,

Please find the following information providing staff with an update on the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pandemic Restrictions:
As highlighted last week, we are committed to providing staff, participants and families / guardians with a high-level plan that will outline our approach to the eventual relaxation of restrictions.

I am pleased to confirm that a preliminary plan has now been drafted, and is currently being reviewed and further refined, ready for distribution next week as part of our regular COVID-19 updates.

Flu Season
Feeling unwell? Our advice continues to be ‘stay at home’.

If you are feeling unwell, it is important to stay at home for two reasons:

  1. To rest and recover: If people force themselves to work when they are really unwell, they may end up being sicker for longer; and
  2. To avoid making your co-workers and / or participants sick, which can happen even if you are feeling ok.

Feeling unwell and COVID-19:

  • If you are sick and unsure if you have COVID-19 symptoms, cal the government’s 24/7 National Coronavirus Helpline on 1800 020 080. If you need translating or interpreting services, call 131 450.
  • If you are sick and have symptoms of COVID-19, call your GP’s office to discuss your options, instead of arriving at the doctor’s office without prior arrangement and putting others at risk.

Sick leave entitlements:

  • If you are a full-time employee, you are entitled to take at least 10 days (pro-rata for part-time employees) of personal or carer’s leave each year. This includes for sickness.
  • If you are taking sick leave, you must let your House / Team Leader or Manager know as soon as you possibly can. Or notify the house for after hours to find a replacement.
  • If Mercy Connect reasonably requests it, the employee must provide evidence (like a doctor’s certificate) to show the leave was legitimate.
  • If you have exhausted personal or carer’s leave entitlements, the payment of annual leave instead will only be approved in extenuating circumstances by your relevant Manager and People and Culture.
