As previously announced, it is with deep sorrow that Mercy Connect will be withdrawing its services from Narrabri. We remain immensely proud of the work our Narrabri team has delivered at two supported accommodation facilities, for many years.
The decision was taken due to local conditions making it difficult for a service of our small scale and type to remain sustainable over the long term. Over the past month or so, Mercy Connect has been actively liaising with several disability support providers as part of selecting a suitable organisation to take over our Narrabri services.
Throughout this process Mercy Connect has been committed to maintaining ‘choice and control’ of each individual participant, their family and support coordinator by ensuring the decision for selecting the next provider was ultimately theirs.
After careful consideration with Executive Leader of Operations, Felicity Lawes and Regional Manager, Mark Peacock, and stakeholder consultation, I am very pleased to notify you that Kirinari has now been chosen as the preferred provider.
This important decision was based upon Kirinari’s values, responsiveness, care for participants, willingness to work with Mercy Connect staff, and commitment to maintaining the residencies of participants who are currently residing together.
The proposed date for complete service transition is: Monday, 25 May 2020.
It was pleasing to note that there was unanimous agreement for Kirinari to be the chosen service provider. Importantly, Mercy Connect is now in regular discussions with their management team to ensure a smooth transition for everyone affected; including Mercy Connect staff currently working in Narrabri. Our People and Culture team will be supporting impacted staff throughout the coming weeks, and will provide advice on their possible next steps and will be in contact with each of them shortly.
Mercy Connect has since advised the National Disability Insurance Agency of this outcome which has been acknowledged and supported.
Whilst closing down our Narrabri services has been a long and difficult decision for Mercy Connect, I am grateful and confident that our participants will be receiving the upmost care and support from Kirinari into the future.
