Sr Scholastica rsm

Monday 31 May 2021
Dear Mercy Connect Family,

After more than 70 years of faithful, and Mercy-led service, Sister Scholastica (Sr Schol) will soon be leaving Mercy Connect, with her final day being on Friday, 2 July 2021.

This joint decision between Sr Schol and the Institute of Sisters of Mercy of Australia and Papua New Guinea (the Institute) has been made in line with the newly created Public Juridic Person (called Mercy Ministry Companions; commencing 1 July 2021); whereby Sisters across the Institute are stepping down from their active work within the various Mercy ministries.

Commencing her work and volunteerism with Mercy Centre in 1993 (now Mercy Connect), Sr Schol remains a dearly loved, and respected, member of our family and local community. Her presence and support at our St John’s front office (Thurgoona, Albury) and other services and programs will be greatly missed.

It is fair to say that Sr Schol is the living embodiment of this poignant Catherine McAuley quote “… no act of charity can be more productive or good to society, or more conducive to the happiness of the poor and needy, than the careful instruction of women… since whatever be the station they are destined to fill, their example and advice will always possess influence…”

Please note that despite her imminent departure, Sr Schol will still be remotely supporting the CEO’s Office through various document / article reviews and proofing, and will remain an invited guest for all Mercy Connect functions and events going forward.

I am confident that we will collectively all ensure that Sr Schol’s final weeks with us are both special and memorable, as we now plan for her special farewell event to be held on Friday, 9 July 2021. At this event, we will formally express our collective appreciation, and deep gratitude, for Sr Schol’s many years of service and her foundational contribution to the spirit of our organisation.

Together we grow.
