A legacy rooted in care and community

St John’s was founded in 1882 by Father Dunne, Albury’s Parish Priest, together with the Sisters of Mercy. The site at Thurgoona was initially established as an orphanage for girls, one of the Sisters’ earliest acts of care in this region.

St John’s has served as a place of rest and remembrance, a quiet testament to the lives of the Sisters who dedicated themselves to service, and those connected to the institutions and community they built here in regional New South Wales.

Privately owned and carefully maintained

St John’s Cemetery is privately owned and operated by Mercy Connect, and is located at Dunne Crescent, Thurgoona, New South Wales. As a licensed operator, Mercy Connect maintains the site in accordance with NSW cemetery regulations and with the care and respect that this place deserves.

The cemetery’s grounds reflect the quiet dignity that has always characterised this site, a place where the enduring contribution of the Sisters of Mercy and those connected to their work is honoured and remembered.
