Today, we celebrate Mercy Day, The Feast of Our Lady of Mercy, which is an anniversary of the opening of the first 'House of Mercy' in Ireland by the Venerable Catherine McAuley on 24 September 1827.![]()
As we celebrate Mercy Day, it is also an opportunity to look at new initiatives that Mercy Connect has been working towards throughout the year. 2023 sees the finalisation of our 3-year Strategic Plan for 2021- 23. Through strong focus on our 3 key strategic areas of Capability, Growth, and Innovation, we have achieved a range of amazing outcomes, positioning Mercy Connect for long-term success. ![]()
Today, we are happy to announce the release of the new Strategic Plan 2024 - 27 (bit.ly/3t572L9) as we remain committed to sustaining our progress, leveraging the momentum gained, and embracing future opportunities. ![]()
Over the past year, we have pursued our vision for growth, innovation and excellence. Our intensive commitment to providing suitable and affordable accommodation has been a monumental effort that involved dedicated teamwork from our staff, and an unwavering commitment towards service improvement.![]()

The Sister Scholastica Scholarship is a way for us to remember the wonderful legacy of Sister Scholastica (Sr Schol). As Saint Scholastica is the patron saint of education, we felt this was a very fitting way to recognise the very good work of Sr Schol. ![]()
This year, there were 3 amazing nominations and it is with great pleasure that I announce that there will be 2 recipients for this year’s scholarship. The awardees are Caitlyn from St Pauls College and Joyce from Xavier High School.![]()
These two young women are very deserving recipients of this scholarship, as they demonstrate outstanding work ethic and focus whilst overcoming significant challenges in their lives![]()

With beautiful, spring-time weather this afternoon, our Albury-based teams came together to commemorate Mercy Day (24 September).![]()
With a large gathering of staff and participants, it was a delightful celebration of fun activities and togetherness for all, complete with outdoor games, delicious food and a movie screening.![]()
We also celebrated the work anniversaries of a large number of staff who had reached their 10, 15, 20 and 25 year milestones! It was a great opportunity to personally say ‘thank you’ for their ongoing commitment and hard work delivered over many years.![]()
We also acknowledged Troy Ottaviani, who received a special award for the Value of ‘Compassion and Respect’, as nominated by his peers. Congratulations again Troy!![]()
Later this week our Central West teams will hold their Mercy Day celebrations!![]()

Michael Moran joined us from Murray Art Museum Albury (MAMA) in preparation for next year’s dedicated exhibition which will showcase artwork created by people with disability through our Community Inclusion ‘Art Space’ program. It was great to see the wide range of works completed, which will soon be on public display for all to enjoy.![]()
We were also pleased to host Sue Gold GAICD, Alexandra Jankowski and Glenys Atkins, from Border Trust for a site tour of our St John’s Campus in Thurgoona, Albury, and to discuss opportunities for collaboration.![]()

In this episode, we are joined by Jen Tait, the Managing Director of Purple Chicken, a for-purpose organisation that explores and develops new models and opportunities for people with disability that are often only available in urban locations. Jen has been a strong advocate for innovation in the disability sector for over 25 years, with a clear focus on employment, and self-advocacy. ![]()
Jen is also a carer of a person with a disability and is very passionate about the benefits and importance of the National Disability Insurance Scheme or NDIS. Through the NDIS, Jen has witnessed the immense difference it can make to people with a disability, through the creation of opportunities and achievement of life goals, in line with their non-disabled peers, so that people with disabilities enjoy true equity within our community. ![]()
